10 inch to 12 inch Conversion on a Clubbie - some advice please.....
all the disc brake setups with the exception of the mk1-2 cooper 7" set up are set up so they are wider than the wheel base of drum brakes at the frount. this means that with wide wheels the wheels will stick out from the wheel arch. however if u use 5" (5j) alloys you can just about get away with it legally. having said that alot of early minis people drive them on 6"(6J) wheels without any truble with mots or police. iv got discs and 5" wheels and mine are under the wheel arch with out wheel arch extenshions

Setting up front hi lo`s
I`ve just fitted a a pair of hi lo`s to front on my 90 cooper, i`ve set them up so there the same height as the original cone`s but when i`ve refitted everything and got it back on the floor there is a 5 inch gap between the wheel and the wheel arch. Will this settle down or do i need to drop the front more?

Not all fibreglas arches need painting - depends on the quality of finish. The issue here is that folk expect fibreglass arches to be cheap. You get exactly what you pay for here... Most folk dont bat an eye-lid at having to fork out over £90 for a set of pukka Wood & Pickett arches - and theyre fibreglass. Good quality finish on fibreglass takes time - and times money. KC.

Wood and Pickett Arches
I have fitted several sets of these, and never cut the arches. Care whilst lining up pays dividends, and I have never had the self tappers drop out! The arches should come supplied with a rubber trim which fits against the wing. All fixings are hidden within the arch edge by the wheel.

wheels
I have 13 x 7 wheels and have no problems with rubbing, i have fitted a couple pairs to different minis and not seen any of these problems, may this just be a problem with specific wheels, for instance the deep dish wheels are the kind i am fitting, would they be set further out of the wheel arch ?

Ooh
So do you suggest that I sell the arches (which I am told I am allowed to do) and purchase a set of smaller arches, say group 2 or 3, which will accomodate 5.5 x 12s much easier?

MIMILITES
AS THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE SAYS THE QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED. I AM REPLYING TO SAY THAT I HAVE 4.5x10 MINILIFE WHEELS WITH COOPER S OFFSET. THEY ARE FITTED WITH 165/70/10 YOKOHAMAS. NOT THAT IT MAKES ANY DIFFERANCE TO THE OFFSETS, BUT I DO NOT USE THE S DISCS. I USE A 8.4 INCH SOLID DISC SET UP WITH THE NEW DISCS MACHINED TO 7.9 INCHES AND 4 POT MINISPORT CALIPERS.THIS WHEEL/TYRE/BRAKE COMBINATION REQUIRED NO BODY MODS OR ARCHES. I DID TRY VENTED METRO DISCS MACHINED TO 7.9 BUT THIS SET UP WOULD NEED ARCH EXTENSIONS SO I STUCK WITH THE SOLID DISCS.. THE MINISPARES 10 INCH MINILIFE WHEELS ARE GOOD QUALITY AND LOOK JUST LIKE THE WHEELS FITTED TO THE 60S RALLY CARS, THEY LOOK THE DOGS DO DARS ON A MK1. MK 1S NEED 10 S NOT THOSE GHASTLY 12S.

Wheel rub on Sportpack arches
Fitted a set of 13" x 7" Deep Dish Superlight alloys in place of my sportpack style alloys & the tyres are rubbing on the sportpack arches. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this? Do I need to change the arches or is there another adjustment to resolve it?

10' cooper S style alloy wheels
What brakes do you have? I've you've got disks, then you will have to fit arches. You might get away with it with drums but stopping can be, erm, interesting. I had a set of proper S offset 10" alloys and they fit over S disks without the need for arches, but these are rare these days. Mine we GBs.

10' Wheels
Hi. I am currently restoring my '84 Mini 25 (12" Wheels)
I have got a set of sportspack arches, and a full set of hi-los. I really like those minis that have wide 10's, that are slammed, and have sportspack arches. What do i need to do, to fit 10s? I have got a set of 6x13's, that i'll use for now, but i would reallty like 10's.. What do you think?

Spax RSX coil-overs
It's probably not a bad idea to add some strengthening as they will be taking more load than normal. You used to have to pocket the rear arches just to fit coil overs in, but with the offset tops on the shocks now, it's not necessary. If you do strengthen it, get it done properly or at least plan well ahead as you may end up doing more harm than good. Also, don't forget you have to get the fuel tank back in, so gon't get carried away with struts and bracing.
By preload, I mean the amount of spring compression applied to lift the car up. The coil spring is a set length when under no load. The spring is placed over the damper and a threaded end stop is screwed on to keep it in place. The whole set up is then placed on the car. If the car was put back on it's wheels at this point the tyres would disappear up into the wheel arches because the spring is too soft to hold the weight. So it is necessary to screw in the end stop to compress the spring (pre-loading it - as in applying a constant load before any external load is applied) to give the spring necessary properties to take the weight. Imagine it's like a tyre with very little air in; off the car it looks fine, but fit it and it'll squash flat. Adding air to the tyre to give it the strength it needs it similar to adding preload to a spring.

minispeed sell 10" cooper s syle alloys. i just wondered if anyone has a set and how far they stick out from the wheel arches. the rim is 5" so id expect it to stick out a tiny bit as i have 4.5" rims and my wheels are within the wings just. but i saw a car with them on the road and they looked like they were sticking out far. i just wondered if he/she was using spacers or its the design of the wheel the rim is offset out. i really dont what arches, they spoil the simplicity of the design thas why i removed mine and removed all the rivit holes.

Front of car looks low
Dont know if there is a standard height setting, but ive always been told rule of thumb (or finger!) is, if you can get your index, middle and 3rd fingers all together, between the top of tyre and bottom of the arch youre ok! If you can only get 2 fingers in the gap, as long as the wheel doesnt catch the arch your are still ok!!! (1 1/4-2 1/2 in old money) This method obviously isnt overly accurate but a lot less hassle than fiddling with a tape!!!! Hope this makes sense!!

MiniLifes
Im afraid that I wont be able to tell you much about the Minilights, but Ive got a set of MiniLifes with sleeve nuts (not the budget set). Ok, I bought 12, as I installed 8.4 disks and big SP arches. In any event, as for quality, the MiniLife wheels are FANTASTIC! Just my 2 cents, and hopefully bumping the thread to the top will enable someone else to chime in. Maybe you could send an E-mail to our host and ask them about dimensions and fitment issues?
